This year’s Slam Dunk is now just a few weeks away, so as another preview we caught up with Ryan from pop-punk heroes State Champs…
The Punk Archive: Hey guys, how’s it going?
Ryan: Hey! Things are great, thanks for asking. Staying busy with this album rollout and getting very excited for this year to kick off for us!
The Punk Archive: How’s your 2018 been so far?
Ryan: 2018 has been amazing thus far. We just dropped the first two singles from our upcoming record, Living Proof! Reception seems to be great so far, and we’re really ready to get out there and play these new songs live. We’ve got Galaxy Fest, some EU headline shows, Slam Dunk, Warped Tour and a tour with Fall Out Boy all coming up, so 2018 is shaping up to be insane.
The Punk Archive: Are you excited to be back at Slam Dunk this year?
Ryan: We could not be MORE excited to be at Slam Dunk. Slammy D was (I think) the first time State Champs came to the UK, back in 2014, and we’ve been impatiently waiting to come back ever since. Four years later, we’re amped and we’ve got a new record on the way. So I think fans can expect a special performance.
The Punk Archive: Can you please pick out five other bands you’re not going to miss, and give us a couple of sentences about why you chose them?
Ryan: Counterparts: Heavy and sad
Homesafe: Hype and hot
Say Anything: Nostalgic and fun
Creeper: Meatloaf and circlepits
Taking Back Sunday: Watch me attempting to sing every vocal part AND every harmony
Slam Dunk Festival takes place across the bank holiday weekend 26th, 27th and 28th May.
