With Boomtown creeping nearer and nearer, we had a quick catch up with reggae superstar Protoje…
The Punk Archive: How’s your 2017 going thus far – what have been your highlights and low-lights?
Protoje: 2017 has been going really good! Blood Money, my new single, has been doing more than I could have ever imagined. Musically and in my career there haven’t been any low moments.
The Punk Archive: Are you excited to be returning to Boomtown this year?
Protoje: I’m very excited about returning to Boomtown. After my first experience, I now know what to expect and so I feel more prepared in every aspect.
The Punk Archive: Did you enjoy playing it previously? And if so, what was so special about it?
Protoje: I did enjoy playing it previously. What’s special about it is just the reputation of the other acts that are on it; great line-ups over all the years and to add to that is just an honour.
The Punk Archive: What should people who haven’t seen your live show before expect?
Protoje: Unexpected performance, different types of energy: something that’s new and fresh to reggae music.
The Punk Archive: With such a massive line-up, can you help festival goers by selecting a few tracks from your ‘must-see’ artists on the bill?
Protoje: Jah9: Humble Mi & Steamaz a Bubble
Jesse Royal: Modern Day Judas
Runkus: Move You Feet
Reggae is in good hands because of these artistes and they are great performers so I can’t wait to see what they bring. Its good to know we’re on the same show!
